“The perceived cannot perceive.” ~ Huang Po

A simple statement, which contains everything you need to recognize your essence. Anything that can be perceived is not you. You ARE the perceiving. Your body can be perceived, so it cannot be your essence. Your thoughts can be perceived, as can emotions and beliefs. What are you without identifying as your body, your gender, your thoughts, emotions, or beliefs? If you drop everything that is perceived, all that is left is perceiving without an object of perception—all that is left is your essence. It is just another way of stating St Francis of Assisi’s quote, “What you are looking for is what is looking.”

Keep it simple.
