I had too many thoughts during my last meditation!

This is an all too common concern voiced by meditators. Is it true? Is it true thoughts are relevant to the recognition of your true essence? Can a thought obscure the recognition of Awareness? If so, how could it? What would recognize Awareness was obscured?

We have a belief quiet meditations are better than those with lots of thoughts, but an examination of that belief shows it is not correct.

Actually, this is very freeing. Now, we can take things as they come without trying or hoping for a quiet mind. Simply notice What notices the quiet mind or the noisy mind. Again, in the words of St. Francis of Assisi, “What you are looking for is what is looking.” Just rest as the experience of What is looking, without regard to what is being noticed, and be free.
